Meet the Doctors of Cottonwood Chiropractic
You've probably heard the saying, "Two heads are better than one." We've taken that to heart at Cottonwood Chiropractic. With two chiropractors on staff, you get the benefit of extra brainpower. Especially with difficult cases.
Introducing Midvale Chiropractor Dr. John Ratliff
People have asked me why I became a chiropractor?
It’s a good question because it goes to the core about what drives me. Many years ago in my senior year of high school baseball I herniated a disc in my low back diving for a ball. For the next 6 years I was plagued with severe leg pain and low back pain. Pain pills were prescribed and physical therapy. Nothing worked. The pills masked it and probably created a false sense of security such that I would continue to cause more injury through my activities.
Finally, after a bad episode my mom said to try her chiropractor who had helped her headaches. I pretty much crawled into his office, but to my amazement I walked out with real improvement and without drugs.
I was in my 4th year at BYU looking to be a dentist. I switched to chiropractic and headed off to Palmer College of Chiropractic. I finished with a bachelor of Science degree and a four year doctorate in chiropractic. I love it. I love the interaction with people, helping them get their lives back. Research continues to re-enforce what I know to be true:
“Posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production …Ultimately, it appears that homeostasis (your body’s ability to stay well and healthy) and autonomic regulation are intimately connected with posture.”
My job is to help improve your alignment and posture so you can live a healthier pain free life.
I continue to read, study, and learn all the time. I’m a diplomat of the Board of Chiropractic Examiners. I’m certified in spine trauma and I am a distinguished fellow in chiropractic biophysics . I completed an advanced course of study in the diagnosis and clinical management of whiplash trauma and related temporomandibular joint disorders.
During my years at Brigham Young University I met my lovely wife Patti. She is a dedicated elementary school teacher and mother. We have five great children and one grandchild. We live in Draper, Utah.

The difference between the patient care at Cottonwood Chiropractic and many other offices is the personalized approach to each patients' needs. While relief of neck pain, back pain, headaches, etc. is often the short term goal, the combination of adjusting techniques and corrective rehabilitation methods used at Cottonwood Chiropractic make it possible to make healthy changes in the spine and body which can keep the patient from experiencing the same symptoms again.
