Meet the Doctors of Cottonwood Chiropractic

You've probably heard the saying, "Two heads are better than one." We've taken that to heart at Cottonwood Chiropractic. With two chiropractors on staff, you get the benefit of extra brainpower. Especially with difficult cases.

Midvale Chiropractor, Dr. John Ratliff

People have asked me why I became a chiropractor?

Midvale Chiropractor, Dr. John RatliffIt’s a good question because it goes to the core about what drives me. Many years ago in my senior year of high school baseball I herniated a disc in my low back diving for a ball. For the next 6 years I was plagued with severe leg pain and low back pain. Pain pills were prescribed and physical therapy. Nothing worked. The pills masked it and probably created a false sense of security such that I would continue to cause more injury through my activities.

Finally, after a bad episode my mom said to try her chiropractor who had helped her headaches. I pretty much crawled into his office, but to my amazement I walked out with real improvement and without drugs.

I was in my 4th year at BYU looking to be a dentist. I switched to chiropractic and headed off to Palmer College of Chiropractic. I finished with a bachelor of Science degree and a four year doctorate in chiropractic. I love it. I love the interaction with people, helping them get their lives back. Research continues to re-enforce what I know to be true:

“Posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production …Ultimately, it appears that homeostasis (your body’s ability to stay well and healthy) and autonomic regulation are intimately connected with posture.”

My job is to help improve your alignment and posture so you can live a healthier pain free life.

I continue to read, study, and learn all the time. I’m a diplomat of the Board of Chiropractic Examiners. I’m certified in spine trauma and I am a distinguished fellow in chiropractic biophysics . I completed an advanced course of study in the diagnosis and clinical management of whiplash trauma and related temporomandibular joint disorders.

During my years at Brigham Young University I met my lovely wife Patti. She is a dedicated elementary school teacher and mother. We have five great children and one grandchild. We live in Draper, Utah.

Midvale Chiropractor, Dr. Robert Cocks

Dr. Robert Cocks, a native of Boulder City, NV completed his undergraduate studies at Southern Utah University and earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, TX in 2006. He is licensed by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and the Chiropractic Physicians Board of Utah. Dr. Cocks brings a unique and fresh perspective to Cottonwood Chiropractic. Dr. Cocks grew up in a chiropractic family, and saw the benefits of chiropractic from a young age. During his chiropractic residency Dr. Cocks had the opportunity to treat many professional and college athletes, and enjoys watching the positive effect his treatments have had for them. He knows the value of having the spine in perfect alignment to obtain the maximum potential of our body. He understands that structure dictates function, which means when our structure is off, our bodies will not function properly. He has mastered many techniques to correct malposition disorders that effect everyone, from infants to elderly.

"I hear people say that their pain is normal all the time. They say that it is 'normal for them'. This is just not true. Pain is not normal, and you don’t have to live with it. I love to hear patients tell me how much they are improving. For example, one man explained to me that he can go dancing with his wife again, another man said he can play basketball again, one woman said that she is able to get out of the house and run her own errands. These people are getting their lives back without the use of drugs or surgery. Unfortunately we cannot help everyone. If you would like to find out if you can get your life back, just give our Midvale office a call and schedule a free consultation and let's see if our treatments are right for you.
